Antimicrobial resistance survivors: calling the world to action
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) remains a global threat, with slow progress in addressing it. The 2024 Lancet Series highlights the increasing burden of AMR, especially in low-income and middle-income countries, and the importance of vaccination programs, access to water, sanitation, hygiene, and infection control. It emphasizes the need to develop antimicrobials for priority pathogens and neglected infectious diseases, depending on the needs of affected populations. AMR affects vulnerable populations, including newborns, older people, and those with chronic illness. The series also highlights the individual stories and voices of AMR survivors and their caregivers, urging the world to recognize them as daughters, sisters, brothers, and sons and advocate for change.
